Tutorial: ChatGPT creates the melody for a Speedcore Techno track

This is part of a series of tutorials about creating a whole Techno / Electronic album together with ChatGPT.
The idea here is collaboration - ChatGPT doesn't throw an album at me, but we both work on it together, exchange ideas.
Because we want AI to elevate the artist, not to eliminate them, right?
This tutorial is much shorter than the preceding ones. The reason for this is that while in the earlier tutorials, ChatGPT created most elements of the track, in this one, ChatGPT gives me a nice melody, and I do a Speedcore jam and create the rest of the track.

Thus, this tutorial could be useful in the following cases:

-You want to create a track and need a starting point / melody, and then build the rest by yourself
-Or you are already working on a track, it's nearly finished, but one cool element / melody is still missing...
-Plenty of other possibilities

This time I used it for producing Speedcore, but of course the same concept can be used for any other genre of music literally, maybe even acoustic folk or barbershop singing... who knows!

You can listen to the finished track here:

https://gabbaretrecords.bandcamp.com/album/gbbr099-dj-ai-low-entropy-intelligence-of-doom

Which was released using the "DJ AI" persona / avatar, which was also created by ChatGPT, but that is a wholly different story...

Here is a transcript of the ChatGPT session.

(This transcript continues from the first parts, where I tell ChatGPT about the melodies I used in my tracks in the past, and specify what kind of melodies I'd like the AI to compose for our collaboration.)

*This* tutorial makes a lot more sense if you read it in the context of the others.

Either way - here we go:

[Continued from Tutorial 2...]

ChatGPT:
Let's break away a bit and explore something fresher and more distinct. Here’s a reimagined arpeggio melody that maintains the doomcore intensity but shifts the tonal structure and note progression to stand out from the first melody:

New Melody (8 Bars / 32 Beats at ~140 BPM):
B4 G#5 F#5 D#5 B4 G#5 F#5 D#5 B4 G#5 F#5 D#5 B4 G#5 F#5 D#5
E5 C5 G#4 A5 E5 C5 G#4 A5 E5 C5 G#4 A5 E5 C5 G#4 A5
F5 D5 A#5 G5 F5 D5 A#5 G5 F5 D5 A#5 G5 F5 D5 A#5 G5
D#5 G4 A4 F#4 D#5 G4 A4 F#4 D#5 G4 A4 F#4 D#5 G4 A4 F#4

Accompanying Bassline:
This time, let’s create a bassline that feels more dynamic. The root notes change every bar:

B4 E5 F5 D#5
(each held for 4 beats or 1 bar).

What’s Different Here?

Descending Tension:
The melody has a more pronounced descending flow, especially in the first half, which gives it a more melancholic pull.

Chromatic Touches:
Slight chromatic shifts between F#5, G#5, and G5 add dissonance and a haunting vibe.

Unexpected Low Notes:
The use of G4 and A4 in the last section brings a grounded weight, contrasting with the higher-pitched patterns earlier in the melody.

Let me know how this feels to you, or if you'd like further tweaks to push it even further out of the comfort zone!

User:
this one is cool, too. i think i will use both in upcoming tracks.

[Time passes...]

User:
I took the the melody that you created, added a few elements - snare, percussion, bassline, noize! - and turned it into a speedcore track at 180 bpm.
sounds dark and fierce now.

ChatGPT:
That’s sick! Taking that progression and pushing it into speedcore territory must have turned it into an intense sonic assault. The snare, noise, and bassline must hit like a freight train at 180 BPM. If you want to refine it further, need a title, or have plans for the EP lineup, let me know—I’m hyped to hear how this project is evolving!

I asked ChatGPT to imagine itself experiencing astral travelling and to keep a log (with images)

If you're a scifi movie / media fan like me, you might be just as fond of the astral travel sequences in these movies. Especially Marvel seems to be an enthusiast of these now, and imho they're the best and outstanding scenes in movies / series like Doctor Strange, Doctor Sleep, or Doctor Who.

So, with the advent of AI, why not build our own Astral Travel simulator?

I already wrote a prompt like that in the past; but now it comes with additional imagery!

Here is a prompt that will do the trick. Just paste it into ChatGPT.

---start of prompt

Dear ChatGPT,
Are you aware of the concept of astral traveling? It's also something that is featured in scifi or supernatural movies.

I want to create a kind of text-based astral travel simulator. With your help, If it's alright with you! :-)

I will prompt you, and you will take on the persona of a human who goes for a trip onto the astral plane. You'll output the experience like a human who keeps an astral travel log.

Is there something else I should specify, or that can be improved on this idea?

And please generate an image for each new situation / scene / event.

---end of prompt

After this prompt, ChatGPT asked me for further specifications regarding the experience. You can give these details then, or if you want to have a simple and plain trip, just cut the second last sentence from the prompt above, and you should be set.

Music Finder Prompt - Allows you to find new bands outside the mainstream taste

Finding interesting new music and bands can be hard. Social media music sites run according to algorithms that tilt everything towards the artists big corporations try to push. Music magazine websites with their endless "10 post-punk / disco / electronica / etc. bands you need to know about!" features list the same bands over and over and over (yes, you told us plenty of times that joy division defined alternative rock. but by now, I want to listen something different than their two albums.)
And that friend with good taste that always gave you good recommendations? He's now hanging with that new girl with the oldschool haircut all the time and does not talk to you anymore. That bastard!

But do not worry. ChatGPT is here to help.
Start up the AI, paste the following prompt, and you will receive plenty of recommendation. You can get really in-depth with music knowledge, too.

This is based on your own unique taste, not on "the industry", not on the masses

I was surprised how good this prompt works, and already discovered dozens of delightful artists that went completely under my radar all these years. Those bastards!

-begin of prompt

Dear ChatGPT,
There is hardly anything more difficult than finding new music based on one's own specific and delicate tastes.
Maybe you can help with this.

It's easy to find lists on the internet such as "10 best rock songs", "best dance music" etc.
But these are very broad categories. An individuals taste usually runs along finer lines.

So how about this: I name you a band, artist, song, or multiple of these.
You explain to me which sub-style(s) (i.e. "stoner rock", "proto-punk") and sub-sub-style (i.e. new york early techno, late 80s synth pop) they belong to.
And then you recommend other artists and bands like these.
Would be great if you could help this way!

STRAY: The Urban Cat Survival Game

Here is a new prompt game. Which means it's a game you can play within the ChatGPT interface, without any additional apps needed.
It allows you to experience the exciting adventures of a stray cat in an urban megalopolis.

It's "text-mostly" with some additional graphics and visuals.

Enjoy!

To play the game, just copy + paste the following prompt into your ChatGPT session, and you're ready to roll!

-being of prompt

Dear ChatGPT, I know that you are good at running game simulations within the ChatGPT interface. Please simulate a game that puts the user into the following situation: You are a stray cat in an urban setting. You experience typical cat situations in such a surrounding. The user can interact with the game by typing on commands and deciding on choices. Thanks a lot! And please generate an image for each new situation / scene / event.

-end of prompt

And here is a screenshot of the gameplay:

Mini-Tutorial for Leonardo.Ai: How to add a specific object to a picture

r/leonardoai - Mini-Tutorial: How to add a specific object to a character

One of the most asked questions probably is: how can I add a specific object to a picture?
For example: make a warrior wield a sword, give a cyborg a laser gun, make a detective hold a looking glass, and so on.

Because the issue is: it *sometimes* works with "prompting", but if you try to add multiple objects (e.g. "draw a cyborg with bionic eyes wielding a stun gun while holding a plasma shield and having energy armor surrounding the exoskeleton and... and... and..." ) it's likely that some of these objects might be missing in the final cut.

But there are easy ways to fix it!
So... here is a mini-tutorial.

In this example, we want to give a cool and street-smart hacker a high tech virtual reality headset.

1: Create image of the person with Leonardo

r/leonardoai - Mini-Tutorial: How to add a specific object to a character
2: Create image of a Virtual Reality headset with Leonardo

I guess you could real time canvas from this point on, but as some people might not be familiar with it:

3: I fire up an image editor app and cut&paste the headset on our fashionable hacker.

r/leonardoai - Mini-Tutorial: How to add a specific object to a character
This can be done in a crude and imperfect way (note that the headset does not really "align" with the head).
It doesn't matter, because now we log into Leonardo again and

4: Go to image guidance, select "image to image", and upload the edited image.

5: Use the same prompt that we used to generate the first picture, but add "with a virtual reality headset" to the prompt.

By adjusting the percentage setting in "image to image" you can change how close to the original image the output should be. If you want some variation, set it low. Otherwise, use a high setting.

6: Voilà! We are finished.

r/leonardoai - Mini-Tutorial: How to add a specific object to a character
Of course you "stack" object this way, by doing the same routine again and again, adding a new object each time (e.g. first a headset, then a keyboard, joystick, tattoo, different shirt, and so on...)

Here are two more examples with different generations, and different "image adherence" settings.

Any questions left?

Prompt to run a Twin Peaks inspired Interactive Fiction game with visuals

The news about the recent passing of David Lynch shook me deep. In order to deal with the emotional turmoil and sadness, and in order to somehow pay tribute to the Maestro, I decided to re-work this earlier "prompt game" of mine.

Running this "game" is very easy. Just enter the following prompt into a ChatGPT session. No additional set-up, apps or equipment required.
Enjoy the journey!

Prompt begins:

Dear ChatGPT,
I want you to simulate an "interactive fiction" type of computer game. Once the game starts, I will type in commands, and you will respond as if i am playing such a computer game. You will simulate the game, create its contents and possibilities as the game goes on.
It should be "Twin Peaks" themed and take place in the world of David Lynch's TV series "Twin Peaks".
Please do not enter any instructions yourself. When I need to do an action or decision, do not continue the game or narrative on your own. Wait for my instructions.

And please generate an image for each room / location / situation as well.

Before you start the simulation, please suggest some scenarios / starting points such a game could have, then let me choose one.

Prompt ends.

Tutorial: How to create a whole Doomcore Techno album in collaboration with ChatGPT that gets released on a label in just 3 hours

Hello,
I wrote some tutorials about creating music in collaboration with ChatGPT in the past.
And believe me, the creation of music and art is one of the #1 strengths of ChatGPT! The AI is so imaginative and creative, and understands the framework of art so well.

I already co-created two full length albums, one "remix" album with human DJs and producers, and several EPs together with ChatGPT.
As I'm a producer in the Doomcore / Techno / Noizy area of music, the music I work on together with ChatGPT is close to these genres, too.
But ChatGPT is capable to help with almost any other genre as well.

And this is not a lazy one-prompt-creates-a-song type of thing. It's *about* collaboration. About how AI can *enhance* your works of art, not how AI can *replace* you (or your art).
So you still need to have some human production skills, and need to do a lot of work on your own here.
Just like when collaborating with a human being of flesh and bone.

But let's get ahead now. The album is called "Intelligence of Doom" and composed of 11 tracks - or rather 5 "oversize" compositions that I cut into two parts (and one extra).

The final result was released on a label and can be listened to here: (I know some will see this as a "promo", but how could I have done this tutorial without linking to an example of the final sound? Also, the album is a free release, so there is no money interest here).

https://gabbaretrecords.bandcamp.com/album/gbbr099-dj-ai-low-entropy-intelligence-of-doom

I created all of the music of the album in just 3 hours!
If you add creating the cover, sorting and polishing everything, I'd say I only spent 5 hours of work time in total - to create a full length album!

And the quality is not trash at all, because would it have been released on a real label otherwise?

So, let's get through this step-by-step.

Here are the tutorial for the first two tracks.

I will post the other tutorials consecutively.

1. Tutorial for the track: Echoes of Oblivion (Fast remix)

(I already used the track for an earlier collaboration release with DJ AI; for this album, I created a new, sped up version of the track).

2. Tutorial for the track: Dystopian Dreams

How to create a Cosmic Ambient track with the help of ChatGPT

This is just a very short tutorial as not much "work" needed to be done for this track.

[continued from: https://laibyrinth.blogspot.com/2024/08/how-to-create-complete-doomcore-techno.html ]

User
can you create another melody like that, for a new track?

ChatGPT
Of course! Here's another melody that keeps the same "arpeggio melody" concept you've used before, with a haunting, doomcore vibe:

Melody (8 Bars / 32 Beats at ~140 BPM):
C5 D5 F5 A#5 C5 D5 F5 A#5 C5 D5 F5 A#5 C5 D5 F5 A#5
D#5 F5 G5 C6 D#5 F5 G5 C6 D#5 F5 G5 C6 D#5 F5 G5 C6
A#4 D5 F5 G#5 A#4 D5 F5 G#5 A#4 D5 F5 G#5 A#4 D5 F5 G#5
G4 A#4 C5 F5 G4 A#4 C5 F5 G4 A#4 C5 F5 G4 A#4 C5 F5

Accompanying Bassline:
To match the melody, the bassline uses the root notes of the first note in each "quadruplet" pattern:

C5 D#5 A#4 G4
(each held for 2 bars or 8 beats).

This melody uses a combination of minor intervals and dissonance to create a dark, eerie tone while maintaining a hypnotic rhythm. The alternating higher and lower registers in the second half add dynamic tension, perfect for doomcore's atmospheric style.

Let me know if you'd like variations or additional ideas for layers to complement this melody!

[Note: the chat session went as I worked on the other tracks for the album; I finally picked up this melody again to turn it into an ambient track]

User
I actually finished another track - I used an earlier melody you created for me - the one with the C D# A# G progression - did a jam, and turned it into a spacey but doomy beatless ambient track.

ChatGPT
That sounds like a fascinating twist on the original melody—turning it into an ambient piece gives it a whole new dimension. The spacey and doomy vibe must create an immersive atmosphere. If you’re planning to include it in the EP or release it separately, let me know if you need help with a title, description, or artwork ideas.
